Im Tal der Wasserfaelle

Ich bin seit 3 Tagen in Baños, einem kleinen Staedtchen auf 1800 m Hoehe, ca. 3,5 Stunden suedlich von Quito. In Baños kann man Tage verbringen, von hier aus geht's in den Dschungel, in die Berge, zu Wasserfaellen, es gibt einen Vulkan und Thermalbaeder. Ich habe eine Radtour auf der "Ruta de las Cascadas", der Wasserfallrute gemacht und an einem Tag 8 hohe Wasserfaelle und traumhafte Schluchten gesehen. Ausserdem bin ich mit dem Go-Kart durch die Gegend geduest. Man kann hier alles ausleihen, Go-Karts, Quads, Motorraeder, Gelaendewagen, es wird nicht mal nach dem Fueherschein gefragt.

Abends gehe ich immer in die Thermalbaeder etwas relaxen. Man wechselt vom warmen gelblichen sulfathaltigen Wasser in kaltes klares Wasser, ist gut fuer Haut und Kreislauf und haertet ab. Damit bin ich hoffentlich gut vorbereitet fuer das kalte nasse Wetter in Deutschland ;-)

Since 3 days I'm in Baños now. it's a little town 3,5 hours south of Quito. In Baños you can stay days. you can go in the jungle, in the mountains, to waterfalls, to a volcano and to the hot springs. I did a biketour on the "Ruta de las Cascadas", the waterfall-route and saw 8 waterfalls and awesome canyons. I also went by go-kart. You can rent all kinds of vehicles here, go-karts, quads, motorbikes, off-road verhicles, they do not even ask for your driving licence. In the evenings I always go to the hot springs and to relaxe a bit. You change from the hot yellow sulphate-rich water to the cold clear water which is good for the skin and the circulation and indurates. So I'm hopefully good prepared for the cold and wet weather in Germany.

Cuenca, die drittgroesste Stadt Ecuadors liegt suedwestlich von Guayaquil im zentralen Andenhochland. Ich habe hier 2 Tage verbracht. Ich habe die riesige Kathedrale besucht, die vielen Gebauede im Kolonialstil bewundert,  bin ueber die zahlreichen Maerkte gebummelt und habe Kaffee in einigen der unzaehligen Cafés und Restaurants Cuencas getrunken.

Am 2. Tag bin ich mit dem Bus in den 30 km entfernten Nationalpark "Cajas" gefahren. Im Park findet man Berge und Felsen, bedeckt mit gelben hohen Grasbuescheln und unheimlich viele Seen und Tuempel, die durch kleine Baeche und Wasserfaelle miteinander verbunden sind. Dementsprechend nass was der ganze Park, ich bin ein paar Mal abgerutscht und hatte am Ende ganz schwarze Schlammschuhe.

Cuenca the third biggest city Ecuadors is situated south-west of Guayaquil in the Central Anden Highlands. I stayed 2 days here. I visited the huge Cathedral, admired the buildings in the Colonial style, strolled over the numerous markets and had coffee in some of the various cafés and restaurants.

At the second day I went by bus to the Nationalpark "Cajas" which is situated 30 km from Cuenca. In the park there are mountains and rocks covered with yellow tufts of grass and lot's of lakes and pools which are connected by streams and waterfalls.According to this the pathes were really wet. I slipped from time to time and at the end my shoes were black from the soil.

Am 11.02. erreichte ich nach 18 stuendiger Busfahrt endlich Guayaquil in Ecuador. Die Hafenstadt Guayaquil ist die groesste Stadt Ecuadors und hat mich durch seine vielen Parks begeistert. Neben Palmen und Mangobaeumen wuchsen dort Pflanzen, die man bei uns nur in Tropenhallen findet. Im kleinen Park Bolivar gegenueber der wunderschoenen Kathedrale haelt man ausserdem Bartagamen, die zwischen den Leuten ueber die Wege und den Rasen liefen und ueberall auf den Bauemen rumlagen.Vom Huegel Santa Ana, dem alten Guayaquil hatte ich einen schoenen Blick ueber die ganze Stadt.

At the 11th of February I arrived in Guayaquil in Ecuador after a 18 hours bus journey. The city Guayaquil is the biggest city Ecuadors and I liked it because of it's many parks. Besides Palmes and Mangotrees there grew plant we usually only know from tropical greenhouses. In the small park Bolivar across from the beautiful Cathedral they have bearded dragons that walk between the people over the pathes and lawns and layed everywere in the trees. From the hill Santa Ana I had a very nice view over the whole city.

 Die Stadt Trujillo war meine letzte Station in Peru. Die Stadt selbst hat nicht viel zu bieten, eine Plaza und ein paar Kirchen. Aber man findet hier verschiedenen Ruinen von Gebaeuden und Tempeln der Chimu-Kultur, welche unmittelbar vor den Inkas einzuordnen ist. Eine der Kulturen, die die Inkas assimiliert haben ;-) Ein paar Kilometer von Trujillo war die Hauptstadt des Chimu Reiches, die Stadt Chan Chan. Von der riesigen Stadt sind hauptsaechlich Ruinen uebrig, ein Tempel mit den Nebengebaueden wurde jedoch rekonstruiert und ist zu besichtigen.

Ein paar Kilometer weiter im ehemaligen Fischerdorf Huanchaco befindet sich der Strand von Trujillo. Dort habe ich mich mit meiner neuen Freundin Anna getroffen, die ich in Puno am Titicacasee kennengelernt habe. Wir haben ein bisschen am Strand relaxt und anschliessend einen wunderschoenen Sonnenuntergang gesehen.

The town Trujillo was my last station in Peru. The town itself is nothing special, there is a nice Plaza and some churches. But you can find there some ruins of buildings end temples of the Chimu-culture, which took place directly bevore the Inkas. One of the cultures the Inkas assimilated ;-) Some kilometers of Trujillo the capital of the Chimu empire called Chan Chan was situated. Today there is not much left of this city but one temple and it's adjoining buildings was reconstructed.

Some more kilometers away from Trujillo there is the ancient fisher village Huanchaco which is today the beach of Trujillo. There I met my new friend Anna who I knew from Puno at the lake Titikaka. We relaxed a bit on the beach and watched a very beautiful sunset.

Lima hat mich nicht so sehr begeistert, es halt eine Grossstadt, ziemlich dreckig, laut und vollgestopft mit Autos und Bussen. Dementsprechend wird auch gehupt. Sehenswert in Lima fand ich die Plaza, an der man die Kathedrale und schoene gelbe Kolonialbauten findet. 

Ausserdem habe ich eine heilige Staette der Lima Kutur aus der Prae-Inkazeit besucht. Die haben grosse Pyramiden aus Lehmziegeln gebaut, auf deren Plattformen sie dann ihren Goettern, dem Mond und dem Meer huldigten.

I didn't like Lima so much. It's just a big city, dirty, loud and full of cars and busses, which all blew the horn a lot. What i liked about Lima is the main plaza with the cathedral and some nice yellow coloured Colonialbuildings. Furthermore I visited a holy site of the Lima culture (Prae-Inka) They built high pyramida from mud bricks. On the platforms of this pyramids they payed homage to their gods, the moon and the sea.

Um weiteren Beschwerden vorzubeugen, ja der Machu Picchu Blog enthaelt keine Bilder. Ich weiss!!!

Der Grund ist, dass meine 8 GB Speicherkarte fast voll ist und die Kamera wieder nicht mehr vom Computer erkannt wird. Ich hatte das Problem schon in Schottland. Ich kann also im Moment keine Bilder von der Kamera laden. Ich werde ab jetzt mit einer kleineren Karte fotographieren, so dass die naechsten Beitraege wieder Bilder haben sollten! 

Ende Februar werde ich die Machu Picchu Bilder nachreichen, fuer alle, die dann nochmal reingucken wollen!

There were some complains about the missing pictures in my Machu Picchu blog. Sorry for this but I have some tecnical problems with my camera. So I can not load down pictures at the moment. For the next pictures I will use another memorycard and I hope I can show pictures in my next blog.  

Da ich ja eh keine Bilder zeigen kann gibt es hier nur ne kurze Zusammenfassung der letzten Tage. 

Nach Machu Picchu bin ich von Cusco fuer 3 Tage in den Dschungel nach Puerto Maldonado geflogen. Habe dort in einer Lodge gewohnt, hatte mein eigenes kleines Haeuschen mit Terrasse und Haengematte. Ich habe ein paar Touren in den Urwald gemacht, zu Fuss und mit dem Kanu und dabei u.a. Affen, Schildkroeten, unzaehlige Wasservoegel und Vogelspinnen gesehen. 

Am 03. Februar bin ich dann nach Nazca gefahren, was fast schon an der Kueste liegt. Dort habe ich mir die Nazca Linien angesehen, grosse Figuren im Wuestensand, die in der Nazca Kultur entstanden sind. Sie wurden uebrigens jahrelang von Maria Reiche, einer Dresdnerin erforscht und vermessen. Es Figuren wie z.B. einen Baum, einen Kolibri, einen Condor, Haende, einen Hund und einen Affen. 

Heute bin ich in Lima angekommen, wo ich 2 Tage bleiben werde. Dann geht es weiter nach Ecuador.

Because I can not show pictures I give you only a short summary of my last days. After Machu Picchu I flew in the jungle to Puerto Maldonado. There I lived at a lodge and had my own house with terrace and hammock. I did some tours to the jungle by foot and by canoe and saw monkeys, turtles, a lot of birds and tarantulas.  

At the 3rd of february I went to Nazca which is situated almost at the coast. There I visited the Nazca Lines, huge figures in the desert sand which were formed during the Nazca culture. By the way they were studied and measured by a German lady called Maria Reiche who came from Dresden. You can see figures like f.e. a tree, a hummingbird, a condor, hands, a dog amd a monkey. 

Today I arrived in Lima were I want to stay 2 days before I go to Ecuador.
